On the other hand, Star Citizen was built to become a space simulation where players can fly around in ships across the galaxy, including going out in a space suit. Elite Dangerous offers players a dynamic society and economy where they can freely choose what to do and what stories they’ll write as their game progresses. Both games give players the freedom of exploration as they earn the skill, knowledge, wealth, and power. In addition, these space simulation games allow players to access either single-player or multiplayer mode. That said, I think its like 30 dollars and it doesn't have a subscription so you may find you get your money's worth out of it and have a good time regardless.Space sim fanatics cannot help but purchase and play both Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen since both offer different space game experiences. I'd say Elite, when I wasn't with friends is about the lonliest MMO ever created. The loops can be shit in Eve too BUT in Eve you always have the possibility of encounters with other human beings which completely shifts the dynamics. For instance "biology", the actual gameplay mechanic for that aside from traveling is you hop out of your ship on a planet and scan the various plant life that you find, that adds it to the data pile and you just sell it upon returning to a station with the correct service. Yeah there are grinds that take a long time but its not like as you move through any given grind you gain access to particularly different content. There are so many systems and things that you might choose to do but you can go from 0 to completely maxed out with any given experience in about a week. The biggest downside of Elite in my opinion though is the general lack of depth. It absolutely undermined the game having been so used to Eve's entire experience riding on top of a player driven economy. I was hoping to help a friend along when he first joined and you'd have to do a bunch of dropping of expensive things in space between ships to transfer any wealth at all. I was appalled to learn you can't even send money between characters. It just doesn't exist in the same way it does in eve. The other thing seriously lacking from Elite when you're used to eve is any semblance of an economy. Maybe they've improved it by now but I doubt it. The game released its big space-legs expansion before it was ready and even after several months of patches by the time I had stopped playing it was still very buggy. In my experience while in multicrew the bugs were at their worst. In fact, it was really a crap shoot whether you'd get random DCs and bullshit every time you played with other people. And that is one of the biggest downsides, it doesn't always work. Landing on a planet in a completely customized ship with specialized loadouts and two or three friends equipped to attack some little ground station felt epic.when it worked. Multicrew ship gameplay was very entertaining as well. They managed to add ground installations you can attack and run missions on which when it works is actually a really good time. The ships all have fairly distinct flight characteristics so if you're in a big hauler vs some little fighter you can absolutely tell and I found that to be entertaining. Exploration, although you could say it lacks depth, actually feels like you're exploring places and seeing things that others haven't. There are pros and cons compared to Eve but I think in the long run if you really liked Eve then Elite doesn't scratch the same itch.Įlite is very pretty, the ships are very detailed and you can see your character using the flight controls and the whole cockpit and it does a nice job of being immersive. I played Elite for a bit in 2020 when I didn't have the time available to play Eve.
